Introduction

Having led technology teams across global firms, I have grown more worried by today’s climate changes that threaten communities everywhere. Despite widespread public outcry for action, this ecological situation continues to escalate. NASA confirms that this decade includes nine of the ten hottest years since 1880, indicating that the accelerating pace of global warming is overtaking assumptions about gradual climate change.

Simultaneously, our exponential technology boom charges ahead, remaining largely unaware of the rising energy usage and promoting a culture of convenience that drives up consumption. Yet, researchers warn that this trajectory brings us closer to a catastrophic collapse within key areas essential for our planet’s health — such as freshwater supplies, rainforests, biodiversity, and climate stability — because we will continue to exceed Earth’s limits far beyond what it can replenish or sustain.

The moment has come for technology leaders to confront consumer demand and harness our influence in steering markets toward sustainability. It’s not just about noble mission statements stating progress; we must manifest that same user-centric design excellence, creating breakthroughs to build ecologically regenerative systems for future generations.
