Often, leadership teams sit in some relevant comfort — safe behind status, routine, and the usual playbook. But breakthroughs don’t happen there.

If you want to shake up business, start with how you lead. Here are seven bold (and useful) shifts for leaders ready to break from the old mould and build something better, some of which I recently shared at the Perfect Rebels launch party.

1. Break the Hierarchy — Start Enabling

Traditional layers slow progress down. Decisions crawl. Good ideas get stuck in chains of approval.

Modern leadership flattens the structure. Not by chaos — but by moving from control to enablement.

For example, Spotify’s squad and tribe model ditched top-down layers. Leaders stopped managing from above and started supporting from within. The result? Faster decisions, stronger ideas, better products.

Try this: Stop being the bottleneck. Coach more, decide less. Let teams lead the charge and back them when they do.

2. Stop Pretending to Know Everything

The myth of the all-knowing leader is outdated. It shuts down questions. It stalls learning. It blocks progress.
